Building Trust and Changing Lives

The Dueling Dragons of Orlando Dragon Boating Program is an unlikely partnership between at-risk teens and officers from the Orlando Police Department, who have joined forces to become a one-of-a-kind, competitive year-round racing team.

Paddles up!

Dueling Dragons’ mission to use the sport of dragon boating to form long-term mentoring relationships between Orlando police officers and inner-city youth. Success in dragon boating comes only when everyone in the boat works together in complete harmony. In the process, stereotypes come down, profiles melt away, friendships are formed, and lives change for the better.

“Dueling Dragons has been a transformative mentoring program in our community, bringing together our police officers and inner-city youth to form a true team and in the process, break down racial barriers, change stereotypes, build trust, and help these kids to dream and achieve.”

Dueling Dragons: In Their Own Words

“In my community, people say cops are bad. Getting to personally have a one-on-one relationship with a police officer has shown me that this is simply not true.”
