Teens “Design Think” at Florida Hospital Innovation Lab
Club members from our Parramore Teen Extension have become expert problem solvers after discovering the ins and outs of “design thinking.” They recently explored the concept at the Florida Hospital Innovation Lab, a space specifically designed for teams of doctors, nurses and staff to use collaborative thinking and overcome health care difficulties. During a weeklong camp at the lab, our youth used the same skills to discuss issues that might arise in their own environments.
Youth honed their capabilities by focusing on suspending judgment, seeking feedback, staying human centered and other important “design thinking” qualities. Through workshops with Florida Hospital staff, round-robin brainstorming sessions and hands-on challenges, they broke down obstacles they face as teens every day.
A behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital allowed participants to see how “design thinking” is used in every aspect of the facility, from day-to-day operations to fire safety drills and more.
Special thanks to our partners at Florida Hospital for sharing your knowledge with our teens and to our friends at Downtown Credo for opening the door to such a great opportunity.
