Walt Disney World Clubhouse Kitchen Renovation Completed
This morning, we unveiled the brand new kitchen at our Walt Disney World Clubhouse to a group of great supporters. Special thanks to our friends at Walt Disney World Resort for having the dream and dedication to bring this project to life and to Syd Levy with United Trophy Manufacturing for generously ensuring the renovation would become a reality.
When we opened the new Walt Disney World Clubhouse in 2008, we worked with Meals on Wheels and Second Harvest Food Bank to provide snacks and hot meals to our Club members on a daily basis. A single staff member was doing all of the shopping, food prep and cooking out of our small residential-style kitchen. It was very difficult to serve more than 150 children per day with such limited space.
Shortly thereafter, it was obvious that there was a growing need to expand service out of our kitchen as we grew to feeding more than 270 youth per day. Angie Sola, the Walt Disney World Corporate Citizenship Manager and ongoing Boys & Girls Clubs supporter, was one of the first people to see this need and worked with the Disney team to bring the project to life.
Because of the kitchen expansion, we will be able to serve nearly 350 children hot, nutritious meals every day. Restaurant-grade cooking equipment, increased prep space and new gas ovens will allow our Club members to explore their passions for cooking and baking through culinary arts classes.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the new kitchen a dream culinary arts space for our youth. You have ensured that the end-product will be both a functional and exciting new space for our kids to discover.
