Walt Disney World Resort Supports Celebrate The Children as Platinum Partner
For more than 50 years, Disney and Boys & Girls Clubs of America have worked together to inspire generations of leaders, innovators, and dreamers. This commitment extended to Central Florida when Walt Disney World Resort opened its gates to guests from all over the world in 1971.
Recognizing the need to nurture creative problem-solving skills while igniting the spark of innovation in young citizens, Disney has funded a variety of initiatives that support the organization’s mission to lead children to success. A large investment resulted in a new building in the Pine Hills community aptly named the Walt Disney World Clubhouse. A year later, a collaboration with Tupperware Brands resulted in a new Club in Osceola County, where the Disney Teen Center is housed. Both Clubs have a staff member funded with an annual grant. And when special previews take place, such as the first sailing of a new Disney Cruise Line ship, or the opening of Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, Boys & Girls Club kids are among the first to experience these offerings before they officially launch. Disney is also the title sponsor of the Youth of the Year program nationally.
A member of Disney’s senior executive team serves on the board of directors, and a relationship manager is assigned to understand and react to the day-to-day needs of the organization. While BGCCF covers Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Brevard counties, support from Disney extends to Lake and Polk counties as well. Through in-kind donations, Walt Disney World has provided costumes for performances, clothing, park tickets for summer campers, equipment for students, and much more. A large grant was recently provided to expand the kitchen at the Disney Clubhouse. Simultaneously, a separate grant will allow Lake County to open a new site that will service hundreds of additional children. A few years ago, a Kaboom playground was built in Lake County with the help of over 100 Disney VoluntEARS, similar to the playground previously built for the Polk County Club in Lakeland.
“I am humbled and inspired every time I walk into a Boys & Girls Club. The services they provide bring hope and opportunity to every member, and motivate them to be their best.”
Each year Walt Disney World joins United Trophy, Tupperware Brands and others as title sponsors for Celebrate The Children. Auction items include an exclusive package with a resort stay, park tickets, and a one-of-a-kind experience that is popular with our guests. Disney also works behind the scenes of the big event to provide other services such as greens from our horticulture team to decorate the room, a choreographer from the entertainment team to coach kids as they prepare for a performance, a judge to select art pieces that are on display at the event, and takeaways for guests. Disney has helped inspire involvement and engagement in Boys & Girls Clubs so that even more children can create the great futures they imagine.
