Youth of the Year

Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs’ premier recognition program, a signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders.  Each Club nominates a high school member annually to compete to represent our organization as the Kiwanis Club of Orlando Foundation Youth of the Year, and to compete at the State level and possibly beyond.

And the winner is …

Meet Abigaelle Caillot, our 2019 Kiwanis Club of Orlando Foundation Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida Youth of the Year!

The 17-year-old high school senior at Dr. Phillips High School endured almost unimaginable hardship seven years ago, when she was a passenger in a fatal accident that claimed the life of her father and her cousin. Left unable to walk from a broken knee and femur and extensive internal injuries, Abigaelle endured a grueling yearlong physical therapy regimen, while coping with the emotional pain of a suddenly fatherless family.

At this critical juncture in her young life, Abigaelle found both the adult guidance and love and acceptance that she so badly needed at her Boys & Girls Club.

Abigaelle recalls “My Boys & Girls Club was not only my second home, it became my safe haven.”

Her mother took on a second job to make ends meet, reassured that her children were well-cared for at the Club after school.

At her Boys & Girls Club she found the community, emotional support and father figures she needed to help her heal. Her Club also encouraged her passion for art, which blossomed into “Caillotagelle Designs,” a small art business whose proceeds benefit impoverished children in Haiti.

Abigaelle is now the co-captain of the varsity cheerleaders, boasts a 4.4 GPA, and is looking forward to attending college next year to pursue becoming a nurse practitioner.
