2021 Kiwanis Club of Orlando Youth of the Year
Youth of the Year
Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs’ premier recognition program, a signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders. Each Club nominates a high school member annually to compete to represent our organization as the Kiwanis Club of Orlando Foundation Youth of the Year, and to compete at the State level and possibly beyond.
Tyler, Walt Disney World Clubhouse
Tyler A. was driving Tyler O. a bit crazy. The Youth of the Year finalist from our Walt Disney World Clubhouse, Tyler A., had interviewed with a panel of judges a whole week ago—a lifetime in teenage years!—and still, and every day, he’d walk into the Club, approach Program Director Tyler O’dneal, and be told the same story. “Sorry, I haven’t heard anything.” Now, he forgives Tyler O. for the deception. She knew Tyler A. had won almost right away, but in this season when so many special things have to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus, we wanted Tyler’s victory moment to be memorable. So, we enlisted the help of WKMG Anchor Lisa Bell, herself once the Youth of the Year from the Pacific Northwest, to set up a surprise on the air.
Tyler, an accomplished fencer with a 4.8 GPA, is an aspiring engineer currently enrolled in 5 AP classes at Evans High School. Tyler will compete to become the State of Florida Youth of the Year in April. We’re rooting for you, Tyler!
